Hello all,
My child was involved in a stick and stone throwing incident with another child at school both children blame the other for starting the throwuing. My child received a minor cut on the head whilst the other child unfortunately received an eye injury which necessitated medical treatment. We are unaware of the extent of the other child's injury. Both children are nine years of age.

The school has said 'it is between the parents and that the situation is ongoing from the other family's point of view'. Whilst genuinely hoping that the other child's injury isn't serious we are concerned about the 'ongoing situation'. What legal actions, if any, can be taken against us.

We would greatly appreciate any advice and help.

Thank you,
Edgar

Whilst it is a novel situation, I am not aware of any law or rule that renders a parent liable for the acts of their children in situations like this - especially given their age and the fact that both of them seem to have been doing this. If I were the parents of the children, I would be asking myself what the school was doing or had done prior, to prevent stone throwing - i.e. by lectures in assemblies, teacher warnings, exclusions, chastisements/punishments etc.
