I live in British Columbia,Canada. I live with a girlfriend in a townhome. I am in a financial bind,so I'm wondering if she is able to take half the mortgage in her name...write up a new mtge deal with her bank, for 1/2 of the outstanding mtge...I'll be responsible for other 1/2...That would lower my payments greatly, and she gets into the housing market cheaper...we would split on bills pertaining to the house, and any income(possible roommate)would be 50/50 too...just wondering if this is a legal possibilty? Thank you in advance.MW

I am sorry, but unless the matter relates to the laws of England and Wales, we cannot really help. If this was in England and Wales, I suspect that, whilst the lender may - on the individual facts, sacnction something like this, they would still want you to remain liable for the full sum if the need ever arose. I think you need to speak to an adviser in Canada I am afraid though.
