Dear All,
I am writing to you to request some much needed legal advice.
Currently I am under investigation at work for 'liking' a facebook comment one of my colleagues made about another employee. At no point was the name of the employee mentioned nor was the work place. Whilst my colleague is being disciplined for making the comments, I have been 'infomally' interviewed about clicking a button to like this comment.
The reason I am asking is that under our rules it is worded "Staff must not make detrimental comments about the business, it's customers or other employees on Internet social-networking sites". I never made any comments about anything just clicked that I liked a comment.
I have worked for this store for 18 years and have never been in trouble with them at all, do you think they are able to dismiss me for this?
Many Thanks

I think they would be very silly to contemplate dismissal, given your length of service and previous unblemished record. I think facebook and twitter are generally going to be regarded as public sites though, and even if not involving work, if an"offence" outside of work is comitted, it can give rise to sanctions inside the workplace.
