10 REASONS TO CHANGE YOUR WILL

To take advantage of changes in the law to ensure you pay the minimum amount of Inheritance Tax - or to avoid paying Inheritance Tax altogether.

To remove obsolete provisions in the Will. Getting rid of unnecessarily complicated provisions can reduce administration costs.

To ensure any gifts in your Will are still proportionate to the value of your estate. Due to the recession, the value of many assets, particularly property, has fallen - so you may want to consider altering the amount of your gifts?

To deal with any changes in circumstances. If you have married since you made your Will, it is almost certainly invalid. Wills should always be reviewed following divorce or separation.

To ensure you benefit the people who really matter to you. If grandchildren have been born since your last Will you might want to put some money aside to ensure they are well looked after?

To change your Executors. Your children may have grown up since your last Will - so that they could now act as your Executors. Alternatively, the Executors you have named could be elderly and you want to appoint someone else?

To avoid family disputes. If you don’t wish to make provision for a family member – you can leave a statement with your Will explaining why.

To avoid wasted costs, delay and stress for your family, by updating the names and addresses of people named in your Will - so that they can be contacted quickly.

To alter/include special instructions for burial or cremation.

To alter/leave a legacy for the future by donating money to a favourite charity.

Barnetts are happy to offer a free secure storage facility for the Will. There are no worries about losing the Will - or paying costly storage fees. We will let you have a letter that you can keep with your important papers confirming that we hold the original Will so that your family can find it easily, when necessary.
