I play in a wedding/corporate entertainment band and we arrived at a venue last night -as part of our signed contracted agreement with them- to play as part of their christmas entertainment. We were told as we were unloading equipment that the event tonight was cancelled, we were not told of this prior to our arrival. Where do we stand? I had signed a contract for last night's performance with them and there has been no written cancellation on their part. Might seem quite clear we have a case to force payment for last night's cancellation, just want to check as forcing the issue may cause cancellation of the remainder of the seasons entertainment too. Thank you

You are entitled to be paid the full sum, as you were ready, willing and able to perform your part of the bargain and it is not a case where you could have realistically mitigated your losses, by getting a booking elsewhere at such short notice. I think that I would "flag up" the fact that you are unhappy at the cancellation, but as a "business" decision, you may not want to take it further at this stage as there could well be other cancellations then following.
