I suffered an accident in the street a few months ago. I’d like to “put a claim in” but am very frightened about having to pay lots of fees, even for seeing the solicitor. I have no idea as to what the procedure involves. Out of the blue, a solicitor knocked at my door last week asking if I had had suffered any injury in the last 3 years. I did not say anything (I was a bit taken aback) and said nothing because of this. I am a pensioner, and have never had to see a solicitor before.

I very much doubt it was a solicitor who knocked on your door, or who accosted you in the street (or whatever). It was probably a representative of a “Claims Management Company”. They are in essence marketing agents who sell cases onto solicitors - in fact, no one is allowed to approach people in this manner. The relationship between these agents and solicitors is very, very uneasy and we have all heard horror stories - such as clients receiving pennies in damages after these agents have taken their cut and after loans etc have been repaid.
Many people have wrongly felt that solicitors and these agents were one in the same. These stories have had a damaging effect on solicitors, but Click Accidents ensure that your damages are received in full. Click Accidents not only offer a free initial interview - we will come and see you. If you do not have a case, then we will not charge you. As to fees, there are various ways that the claim can be paid for and putting your hand in your pocket should be the last resort, and indeed if you are asked this, then you would have to question whether it is worth pursuing at all. Check if you have any legal expenses insurance. This is common as an "add on" to your household insurance, or any car insurance that you may have. Click Accidents will help look through any insurance documents to see if you are covered, and if you have it, will usually approach your insurers to see if they can deal with the case.Trades Union Cover. Even if you are no longer a member, it could be the case that family members are, and that the Union will be ale to refer you to Click Accidents anyway. No win no fee agreement. This is the situation where, after exploring all the other ways of funding the claim, Click Accidents agree not to charge or the work carried out in the event that the claim fails, and will seek to claim the costs from the third party insurers, on top of your damages if you win the claim. To sum up, you have no need to fear by seeing a solicitor. It is not likely to cost anything. If the case is taken on, there are ways to fund the claim at no cost to you. edited by www.clicklegalservices.co.uk on 12/10/2011
